TN NAPUS Eddie Russell Scholarships

WHO WAS EDDIE RUSSELL?

Eddie Russell was a Postmaster from the 385 Area (Baxter and Monterey TN). He was an active NAPUS member, but also worked for all Postmasters.

We lost Eddie in 1989 after a fight with Leukemia. He did live to see his only son graduate from college; he was in isolation and watched it on video.

In 1991, with the help of the people of Putnam County, who knew Eddie and former Tennessee NAPUS President (1999 through 2001) Arlene Bush as well as the 385 Postmasters began to work toward setting up a Scholarship Fund for the Tennessee Postmasters in his honor.

In 1994, we had enough money to give a $500.00 Scholarship. In 1995, we gave one $1000.00 Scholarship. In 1996, 1997, 1998 we gave two, $1000.00 Scholarships each year. The Tennessee Postmasters have worked very hard to raise this money. We have bought shirts, sold chances, held auctions and recently added the Eddie Russell Memorial Golf Tournament to raise money.

When a memorial donation is received, we send the family a card to inform them a donation has been made in honor of their family. Two types of donations can be made to the Eddie Russell Scholarship Fund. If you or anyone in your NAPUS family has a death or if you would like to make a donation. To ensure our children and grand children can become outstanding leaders for tomorrow. The Eddie Russell Scholarship Fund is set for anyone who wants to make a donation.

The scholarship Funds we have been receiving over the past few years have been invested into C.D.’s with the NAPUS Federal Credit Union. We invested these funds hoping the scholarship Fund could become self-supporting.

This
year we will give one $1500.00 Scholarship to a deserving student. All
applications need to be postmarked by May 15, 2010.   Application
